Monstroso by Charlie Higson

A homorous action packed book most teenage boys can relate to! This story had a fictional straightforward plot but was exciting to read and had likable characters.
Let's face it, most of us imagine ourselves in wacky unrealistic situations like the teenage boy of this story Oscar. This book was set as if it was yesterday with its modern technology and language, with colloquial words like 'powned', 'rofl', and it included the game 'World Of Warcraft' which many teenagers today have played. The story was about Oscar who I can could definately relate to, and his problems after creating a real life monster! He accidently created 'Monstroso' after playing on his fathers computer which he we was forbidden to play on. He thought it was just another game and just casually created a chracter without putting any thought into it like setting his aggresion to max and setting its intelligence to zero (which is a typical thing boys do). Then suddenly to his suprise the monster he created became real! The havoc and disaster that followed was hilarious! they ended up fighting another real life monster and destroying the house along with turning Oscars grandfather into jelly!
At frist I thought this was another crazy outrageous book but as I read on, I enjoyed it and related to Oscar and the way he thought and did things. I highly recommend this to teenage boys with a a crazy imagination and those who play online video games. 7.5 out of ten :)

  1. Yes I can see why teenage boys would like this book - if they could tear themselves away from the computer/playstation long enough to actually read it!! I'm glad you did. The idea of "creating a monster" is an old one in literature (for example, Mary Shelley's famous book Frankenstein) but it sounds like the author has given this old idea a 21st century flavour and some humour.
