The Last Shot by Allan Baillie

Ok umm I wasn't sure if the review was due today or not because not much people has posted, no-one has reminded me and Ms Comer can't log on, but anyways just to be sure....
I chose this book beacause the cover was a guy with a basketball and the story was about basketball, my favourite sport. It was about a teenage boy named Steve who moved to a new school and he is very talented at basketball. The whole story was set in just one game which was his first basketball game in his new school. The main structure of each chapter was 4-7 paragraphs with the paragraphs alternating between the game that was going on and his secret past and the reason why they moved. Each chapter revealed his past bit by bit which was a good way to keep the reader wanting to read more. Steve's father had a dangerous job and was caught up in the problems which was why they had to move to the extent of changing their names. At first the story was quite confusing but as you read on more things gets revealed and the story gets much clearer. The story was very interesting and I would still recommend it to those who don't know much about basketball because it didn't really focus on basketball but the past of Steves family. I would give this book a 7/10 because it was interesting but I didn't really enjoy it.

  1. Just so you are clear about it: book reviews are due every second Friday (on the Friday we go to the library) In other words, you borrow a book and start reading it, take it home and have two weeks to finish it, write the review and return it at the next library lesson. Easy! The structure of this book sounds really interesting. Was it effective? And if it was interesting why did you not enjoy it? That's a bit confusing!
