So ... Valkyrie's skills have definitely improved. Moving the air under her feet and summoning flames from her fingertips, come to her naturally.
Still hiding her secrets from her parents, Valkyrie relies on her reflection to take her place at school and at home whenever shes not around.
Skulduggery is still his same old funny, non-living self.
Like always, someone is trying to destroy or rule the world. In this case, someone wants to open a gateway to let in the Faceless Ones back into this world. Valkyrie and Skulduggery can not figure out who or what is behind this. A man named 'Batu' is said to be behind this, but Batu is a legend, no one has ever seen him.
To open this 'portal/gateway thingy' they need something from the 'other' world, which in this case is the torso of the 'Grotesquery' (from the second book) and a teleporter. There are many teleporters but for some reason, they are being killed. One last teleporter lives, and he happens to be an untrained, European teenage boy named "Fletcher". The good guys get a hold of him, and the fun begins (well not really, the fun begins on the first page ;p ).
The third book in the Skulduggery series is as action packed as the first and second one. With Valkyrie and Skulduggery meeting more new friends, enemies and of course Skulduggery's jokes, the third book is as enjoyable as the first two. Would recommend this book to those who like a laugh and enjoy more of an action packed and crime solving kinda book.
Still reading the Skulduggery Pleasant books I see! Are you going to review the whole series? It will be interesting to see whether the later books in the series live up to the standard set by the earlier ones, as often this is not the case.
